A contribution towards the running costs has enabled a family run morris dancing group based at Higher Irlam Social Club, to enter 18 competitions. HDT gave £500 to Irlam Gems, which meant they were able to help all of the 60+ children by contributing to the cost of their competition dresses.

“The dresses cost £100 per child so we would not have been able to enter any of the 18 competitions this year and would have stayed at home.” Jane Leishman, Treasurer

    Meadows Social Club

HDT supported the Meadows Social Club with their activities, functions and days out organised throughout the year. Older members of the community are able to come and meet friends, play bingo and go on days out, ensuring social inclusion. The group took 44 of their members on a coach trip to Llandudno and had an event where 49 people celebrated St George’s Day. Funds received have paid for things like transport, refreshments, bingo and the TV licence.

“HDT provided much needed financial help to enable us to do a trip to Blackpool, a Christmas Party and a St George’s day party.  Without the help we would not be able to ask people to take part who could not afford the funds” Joe Helps, Committee Member

Children at Rixton Tots can now safely access the outdoors and the different activities and sensory experiences this affords thanks to the group being able to provide a safe outdoor play surface for the children following a £3,106 grant from HDT. Without it the toddlers’ (about 20 children per session) play activities would have been restricted to indoors.

“It’s lovely to be able to relax and let the children enjoy playing outside, without worrying about them falling over – a frequent occurrence with toddlers! Thank you.”  Deborah Mawdsley, Parent

    2nd Irlam Scout Group

The 2nd Irlam Scout Group hut was refurbished about 2 years ago with help from Hamilton Davies Trust. Subsequently the floor needed to be re-laid due to cracks and moisture. HDT offered £1,286 to help pay for this as it values the activities the Scout Group provides for girls and boys of all ages including Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers and Cubs. Possibly we would have had to close The Hut as the floor was cracking and water was coming through. Black bitumen was coming through the floor, and cracking it, as there was no membrane which really bad and we could not continue. It would affect everyone using the facilities.” Jim Mather, Group Scout Leader.
