Welcome to new team member Kirsty

Hamilton Davies Trust are pleased to welcome a new member to the team, Kirsty Martin, who joined us in February.

Kirsty comes to us with a wealth of experience, having previously worked in both the public and private sectors, and joins us from Veolia Merseyside & Halton where she ran their education programme working with community groups and schools.

Following a busy first few weeks of getting to know the team, and some of the many community groups, partners, and volunteers that we work closely with, Kirsty is now up to speed and raring to get to grips with her new full-time role as Project Manager for Arts & Heritage. Kirsty said: “I’m very excited to join the team at HDT and I’m looking forward to working with the community over the forthcoming months”.

Kirsty’s knowledge and former work experience will be extremely valuable in building on the work that has been done so far in creating a wonderful Heritage Hub at Irlam Station.  Thanks to the support from the Friends of Irlam Station, and the friendly welcome provided by the staff at The Station, the Hub has become increasingly popular with visitors from wider afield, as well as locally. As interest in Irlam & Cadishead’s rich rail, industrial and social history has grown,  HDT has realised the need to expand the team to enable us to deliver more heritage projects to enhance the visitor’s experience and to do justice to the pride the community has in its fascinating history.

In addition, our exciting plans to further develop our IC ART programme, and deliver more community art projects, will also be gathering speed as Kirsty takes the helm and works with artist Rachelle and others on this  aspect of our work. We are also looking at ways to utilise our IC ART  studio space better to enable a broader scope for a range of art activities.

Having previously worked with students and teachers  from Springwood School and I&C Academy, HDT know how keen the community are to be involved in art projects on various levels. We have also been encouraged by their interest in local history, having a particular meaning for them and their families. We are currently working with local Scout groups on a combined art project to be installed on Station Park…watch this space!

HDT Advisor and Consultant Manager Julie Thompson commented: “We look forward to some exciting times ahead, building on our existing project work, developing new opportunities for the local community to get involved in, and celebrating the rich heritage and creativity of the district”.

The team feel very positive about the year ahead and what can be achieved in 2022, especially with an extra pair of helping hands! Kirsty is a welcome addition to the team and is keen to meet more local people to see how we can work together to further develop and proudly showcase Arts and Heritage in the district.
