Successful FIRST tour of Irlam Station
Hamilton Davies Trust (HDT) are proud to be supporting the Friends of Irlam Station (FIRST) in their exciting new venture to host guided tours of the Heritage Hub at Irlam Station.
Their first tour was held on the 5th October when visitors were gently guided around Station House, the Signal Box and and the surrounding station environment to see various artefacts and displays. Showcasing Irlam & Cadishead’s rich industrial heritage the tour lasted 90 minutes from 10.30am – 12noon. The FIRST guides, who all live in the area, have a real passion for Irlam Station and the district’s history and were keen to share their knowledge of both.
The tour proved very successful and drew visitors from Lymm, Eccles, Birchwood and further afield. One visitor commented: “A fantastic event, so interesting. I loved the passion and knowledge of the Friends volunteers.”
Some of the HDT staff joined the tour and thoroughly enjoyed the morning. One member Sarah said: “It was a really informative tour and the FIRST volunteers were really interesting. Overall a brilliant morning out, finished off a with a lovely pie in the Station Cafe.”
HDT were delighted when the Station House re-opened in 2015, after decades of being closed off to the public, and have been busy ever since developing the heritage hub exhibits and art pieces that are freely on display to the public. We are extremely grateful therefore that the FIRST volunteers are now being tour guides and spreading the word about this wonderful station and the history it holds. We wish them every success with future tours.
Further tours of Irlam Station are being planned and will be advertised locally and through Eventbrite, where booking a place is easy. Meanwhile for more information contact 0161 222 4003 or email [email protected]
