There’s no age barrier to Volunteering!

The Hamilton Davies Trust (HDT) team were very proud to host an event on 19th October to celebrate the breadth of volunteering that takes place in Irlam, Cadishead and Rixton-with-Glazebrook, the areas that the charity support.

The event was held in the Community Hall, Hollins Green and the room was buzzing with 124 guests and HDT staff enjoying each others company.

The smiles and chatter in the room was wonderful to see and hear as guests shared their volunteering experiences and the joy and satisfaction that they personally get out of supporting their community and local community groups.   HDT’s Chair Neil McArthur (an advocate for volunteering) was delighted to welcome all the guests and congratulated everyone present on their valuable input to the district and the huge difference that they make to others and the area.

Throughout the evening short videos were shown of volunteers talking about their passion for the volunteering that they do, including: Jill and Andy Eaves from Community Coffee; Chat Moss Wildlife lover Dave Steel; and Debbie Parker representing Irlam & Cadishead Community Clean-Up.  These were just three examples of the scope of volunteering that people choose to get involved in.

Dave Dee, representative from Cadishead Band, said: “It was great to meet with others who only have one interest at heart, for which HDT has been and continues to be the catalyst, that being supporting the communities of Irlam, Cadishead and Rixton-with-Glazebrook.”

During the evening guests enjoyed a complimentary hot meal and drinks catered for by The Black Swan.

Later in the evening guest speaker Michelle Warburton from Salford CVS Management Team congratulated all the volunteers present for the time, skills and commitment they give to the many good causes.  She also spoke about the wider volunteering opportunities.

Julie Thompson (HDT’s General Manager) brought the evening to a close by thanking all for coming and also commented on the outstanding contributions that they make.  To finish she gave a special presentation and bunch of flowers to June Winspear, volunteer representative for ‘Food For Thought’, one of the many groups that June supports.  June, who was due to celebrate her 90th birthday the following week, was held up as a shining example that there is definitely ‘no age barrier to volunteering’!
