The ‘Man on the Bench’ has a fantastic story to tell

The much-loved ‘Man on the Bench’ sculpture sits quietly outside Station House watching over the comings and goings at Irlam Station. He has been in situ in this same spot since 2021 and before that has been in the district since he was originally created by a local school boy in 1978.
The Man now has a plaque on the bench on which he sits that tells the story of his long journey from his original conception to where he is today. Two QR codes on the plaque link to short YouTube videos. One, produced by HDT, shows the fantastic local crowdfunding campaign that took place to raise funds for the original sculpture to be cast in bronze for longevity. The other video was produced by Bronzecast, the company who cast him in bronze, and shows the amazing process and skills used to bring him to life and ensure he remains as such for many years to come. Both videos are certainly worth
taking a few minutes to watch.
HDT were proud to have led this fantastic local project back in 2018 and are delighted that the Man continues to be part of the district to this day, after first being made 47 years ago!
