Re-installed railings enhance public space at Irlam Station

The recently extended Station House outdoor forecourt is proving a plus for the station, due to the 39 metres of existing railings being lifted and moved 5 metres towards the platform. The existing railings and a few new sections were installed by local company Titan Security Fencing.  The project, done in partnership with Network Rail, was 3-way funded by Thurnall Taverns, NC Developments and Hamilton Davies Trust.

Not only does the move provide additional space to showcase even more station heritage, but it also gives extra public space for popular events like the Friends of Irlam Station’s summer and Christmas events, tours and Christmas Carols.

The additional seating space will also enable more covers for the Station’s Cafe-Bar and safe waiting area for commuters waiting for a train.

This enhancement, along with the completion of the long-awaited step free access project, will vastly improve the Station’s public areas and accessibility.
