Heritage Open Day held at Irlam Station
Every September thousands of volunteers across England organise events as part of Heritage Open Days to celebrate the fantastic breadth of history and culture, offering the public chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are FREE to explore.
On the 8th September The Station – Irlam proudly held its Open Day. On hand to show visitors around the station’s Signal Box and Heritage Hub were HDT staff member Tony Prescott and Friends of Irlam Station volunteers Margaret, Linda and Paul (pictured talking about the Midland 2a Signal Box) who were all keen to share their extensive knowledge of the station’s history and former local industries.
The event was a great success and the 22 visitors went away having learnt a lot about the station and the local industries, and the part they played in shaping the district’s heritage.
Irlam Station is open 7 days a week for visitors to pop along and freely take a look around at the history that it so proudly showcases, with its wonderful Heritage Hub, Signal Box, Signal Yard, Wheels of Local Industry exhibit and art pieces on the platforms and in the Station’s Art Park.
To get the most from your visit, however, a guided tour can be booked for groups of all sizes. So why not take a closer look, and arrange your guided tour by contacting the Hamilton Davies Trust team on 0161 222 4003 or email [email protected]
