Regeneration Group

From enhancing our urban environment and developing our communities, the group drives regeneration in the area.

Made up of local councillors, senior officers from the City Council and HDT, the Irlam and Cadishead Regeneration Group helps drive forward regeneration across the area and reports back to the Community Committee annually. The group is chaired by Roger Lightup, a local resident and former Mayor of Salford and meets quarterly to discuss enhancing our urban environment and developing our communities, whether that would be by preserving our past or developing our future.

Irlam and Cadishead has seen the closure of large industry, reduction in agriculture and a change in shopping habits, which has meant an increase in dilapidated older properties and underused shops. This is particularly the case on Liverpool Road which is the main route through the area.

Over the past 3 years the Regeneration Group has been delighted to welcome major developments like the new Irlam & Cadishead College building and the Leisure Centre. Even something as simple as cleaning and restoring properties, improving shop fronts or planting trees helps develop and strengthen a sense of pride in the area.

We are still continuing our economic recovery in the area, with the Northbank estate, employment rising, housing development on the up and inward investment, the future looks positive.

HDT is so pleased with the progress made in Irlam and Cadishead since the group’s inception in 2011 and we know having the support of others in the community will give us the chance to continue the good work and do more!
