Queen’s Coronation – thank you Ma’am!

To mark the special occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the HDT team wanted to capture the Queen’s Coronation Day from a local perspective and so set about making a commemorative video. Having put out a call for help for anyone with memories of the day to come forward, we were delighted that a group of local residents answered and came along to be interviewed.

It was wonderful to listen to them recall their fond memories of such a momentous occasion as we videoed them talking. Thanks to team member Sarah Murray’s editing skills we were then able to produce a 10 minute video that captures key memories for many local people, especially those over 75 yrs of age and above. The result can be seen by clicking on the link here

To also mark the occasion HDT held a Jubilee Coffee Morning on 1st June to which local residents were invited, including all the interviewees. During the Coffee Morning a premiere of the video was shown and received a resounding round of applause.

Written accounts from the interviewees and memorabilia from the Queen’s Coronation Day can also be seen on display at Irlam Station.

HDT’s Chair Neil McArthur, who received an MBE from the Queen in 1992, said: “What an amazing position the Queen is in, to be the longest serving monarch in the world. I wish her all the very best, she’s had a tremendous reign. Long may it continue.”
