Neil McArthur was born in Irlam and is the son of a steel worker and librarian. Throughout his career in telecoms and entrepreneurship he has continued to commit to his passion of fostering inclusivity within business, his local community and beyond.
Recognised for his services to engineering, Neil was also made an MBE in 1992 and through this latest recognition, Neil has committed to providing expert advice, directing the Academy’s activities through committees and steering groups, mentoring awardees, promoting and advancing engineering excellence and technology innovation.
Neil McArthur, MBE FREng commented: “I am honoured to have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Throughout my career in telecoms and through my work founding the Hamilton Davies Trust, I have been a passionate advocate of creating a sustainable and inclusive society and hope to continue this work through the variety of opportunities the fellowship presents.”
The HDT team are proud of the work of the Trust, which started operating in June 2004, born from Neil’s vision to help improve the areas of Irlam, Cadishead and Rixton-with-Glazebrook. HDT celebrated 20 years in operation this year and the team are extremely proud of what it has been able to deliver to the local community where Neil was born and started his engineering career.
