Partnership working boosts the success of The Station-Irlam
HDT were delighted to host a Thank You evening on 6th March to congratulate Friends and partners involved in the growing success of The Station-Irlam and its Heritage Hub.
Enjoying a hot buffet, drinks and a good chat, the Friends of Irlam Station, station staff, North Cheshire Development and HDT staff gathered in the station’s Coal Yard to celebrate the past year’s achievements. On the night, the different partners updated the group on the various ways they had been supporting the station through the cafe’s offering, heritage tours and community events.
The main highlight of the evening was a presentation to Ian and Lynn Taylor for their longstanding commitment to the Friends group, having been Chair and Secretary for many years. The voluntary effort and time they have given to the Friends group was applauded by all present. Whilst resigning from their committee roles, they are both looking forward to continuing as volunteers of the Friends group.
The Station-Irlam is a unique venue and creating a facility that offers a warm welcome and a heritage hub within the building and grounds of a live station is no mean feat! Balancing the sustainability of a business and a FREE heritage and community hub is difficult at times, but something that all partners are passionate about and committed to.
Having been open for 9 years the issue of maintenance of the station house and grounds was also briefly touched on during the night. The importance of maintaining the many attractions and keeping them in good condition, especially the outdoor ones that are open to the elements, requires a planned and cohesive approach to ensure the longevity of the venue and its existence as a public attraction. HDT feel confident that with continued good partnership working this will be achieved.
With planned ‘Access For All’ works, to deliver accessibility improvements to both platforms, having now commenced, the station can look forward to being open to even more visitors both locally and from further afield.
